If you haven’t already scheduled a dental cleaning for your children, call Holladay Dental Studio. We provide general dentistry for families from here to Salt Lake City and everywhere in between.

Why You Should Start the School Year With A Dental Exam

Quick: What percent of children will have at least one cavity between the ages of 5 and 9?

5 percent?

10 percent?

According to the American Dental Association, more than half of children between those ages will get a cavity.

Coming to our dentist office for routine cleanings is one of the things you should be doing to prevent cavities. At the same time, early detection is the best way to get the treatment your child needs to prevent his or her cavity from getting worse.

Trust us, you would rather nip this problem in the bud than get a call from the school nurse a month from now telling you that your little darling has been complaining of a toothache.

When children are old enough for school they are right around the age to have any number of dental issues. Most kids start losing their teeth around age 6 or 7. By age 12 or 13, most kids have all their permanent teeth (with the exception of their wisdom teeth). That’s about the time to consider orthodontic treatment as well.

During your family’s visits with us, we will keep a close eye on the way your kids’ teeth are changing. We will let you know if we see anything you should know, and just as important, we have the ability to treat almost any issue in our office.

Dental care is a little simple when you know you only have to go one place to meet your family’s needs.

What We Will Do For You

If you are new to our area or new to our office, you and your family are always welcome.

We like to give new patients a tour of our office. We will show you some of the state-of-the-art equipment that we have incorporated into our practice, and we want you to understand that your comfort is important.

We are happy to provide blankets and pillows so you can feel cozy when you are in one of our dentist chairs. For patients who may be anxious about coming to the dentist, we also offer two kinds of sedation dentistry — nitrous oxide (also known as “laughing gas”) and oral sedation.

As part of your initial visit, we will take digital X-rays of your family’s teeth. This allows us to see those X-rays faster, and the digital machine emits much less radiation than older, film-based X-ray machines.

A professional dental cleaning is an important part of your routine care. A member of our staff will remove any tartar or plaque on your children’s teeth, and he or she will give them a polish so their smiles will look great on the first day of classes.

An examination is an important part of your visit as well. We will check your kids’ teeth for signs of tooth decay, and we will check their gums for periodontal disease.

One of the tools we use is an intraoral camera. This allows us to take a closer look at the inside of our patients’ mouths than we can with our eyes alone. By doing this, we often can identify and treat problems in the earliest stages. The makes the treatment less invasive and less expensive.

While you are here, we would encourage you to take advantage of our other services, such as dental sealants, fluoride treatments, and custom-fitted athletic mouthguards.
